“I Began to realise how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. That if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms. Hug it, love it, and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good.”

🇳🇱 🚴‍♀️ Today set to be a MEGA day of 23 miles. Now that may not sound like much but I’m-a-tellin’ you, when you’re hauling three kids, luggage and managing happiness levels of five humans - that’s a lot.But this was okay. Because before leaving our stay in a castle (yes, a freakin castle! 🏰 ) I had done the usual extensive research on where to stop for a lunchtime play. We were going to a playground with a GIANT pirate ship! 🏴‍☠️ The kids were restless after 5 miles. Usually we can make it that far without a single request but today one of them was asking for something every few minutes. I stopped to dish out snacks. ‘You’ve opened that door early’ @adventureman said, referring to the fact that one snack tends to lead to requests for more snacks. ‘These are preventative snacks.’ I replied. We soon ran out of snacks. At a place called Zaanse Schans, Jamie nipped into a shop to get some biscuits. We passed the time looking at a windmill (we hadn’t actually seen any on the trip until this point - 5 days in 🙀)We set off again, wheeling past five more windmills. Ooohing and arring at them, giant blades slowly turning against a sapphire sky.‘Mum! My face is really cold’ Storm said a mile later. If I have learned one thing on this trip it’s to always listen to these requests and attempt to fix it if you can.I pulled over and fashioned her a scarf. Onwards we went. The wind picked up. The landscape was flat and green and looked the same for a long while. Every mile felt like ten. Normally I try to let kids just stay in the moment. But today, In a bid to keep us in motion I had mentioned the pirate ship playground.. a lot. ‘We’re here!’ I announced after 15 blustery miles. But oh. There was no playground. Just a bar. A closed bar. ‘Oh shit.’ I said, head in hands. I had messed up. We’d pedalled past the ‘Avonturenspeelplaats’ by 22 minutes. Luckily this is the Netherlands. There was another playground with a fantastic wooden pirate ship 2 minutes down the road. The kids were none the wiser. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 💪🏼 ... See MoreSee Less
